To market my audience effectively, it was necessary to
become familiar with their; their habits, behaviours, likes, and dislikes.
Because of the many variations included in music genres it is essential, since
you cannot accommodate everyone’s preferences, thus making it important to know
exactly who you are targeting.
The feedback from my target audience was critical &
vital for my whole project as these are the group of people within the music
market at which my product at.
Firstly to get an overview of who my audience was I
conducted a questionnaire which researched what aspects of real media products
my target audience liked, in term of codes conventions, for example do they
place importance on the artists style and fashion, this type of Intel would
help me gain insight on how to make my music video more appealing to my target
audience. This feedback I receive from the first questionnaire helped me choose
the sort of genre for the music video I was going to do and how I was going to construct
my video, for example because hip hop as genre on my questionnaire had a high
response rate on the questionnaire it hugely affected the choice of the genre
of my music video, as the results showed it would relatively appeal to a large
audience, on the construct aspects of the video it affected how the characters
on the video were dressed. As the results of the questionnaire revealed that
the hip hop audience had a huge interest in fashion, and by incorporating this
in my music video I was able to make the characters in the music video appeal
to the target audience.
This showed me that
you need to conduct some form of research on your target audience in order to
find out how your product can appeal to them, this research can be primary or
secondary, for example questionnaires or looking and analysing other media
products that have successful appealed to a similar target audience of yours.
I upload a rough edit of my music video on to social
networking site Facebook, as I felt I could reach my target audience on this
website as it showed me the target audiences interests and favourite music. I
gain a lot useful information on the good aspect of my music video & how I
could improve it, for example the most common comment I receive was I had to
make the cuts faster and snappier in order to match the tempo of the song.
I also conduct a second structured questionnaire on music my
music video, which some of my classmates completed, it was based on the information
I gather from the feedback I got from rough cut of my video which I upload on
facebook, it was focused on how I could improve my final video,
Strengths and weakness of my music video
I choose to mostly use a quantitative
research method as it allowed me to measure and analyze data I receive from the
questionnaires. This is advantageous because it allow me to be more objective
about the findings of the of my research. Also quantitative research enables me to statistically measure the
target audience’s attitudes and behaviour. Plus quantitative research has the
ability to effectively help me translate data into easily quantifiable charts
and graphs. But this research method of getting my audience feedback did have
limitation such as, some people who participated on my questionnaire may have
just choose socially desirable answers, thus making this method less valid.
During the editing
process, I constantly requested feedback from other media students within my
media editing suite. The feedback I received from them was significant because
as media students they are aware of what a real media product should feature as
they were encouraged to analyze the products of the media,
the audiences who consume them and the industries that create them.so they
would constantly comment on how I could make my media product more effective.
and I think this
feedback helped my media product reach the stand it is in now.
